Sauvie Island Center Field Trips

Local students journey into the fields to learn about growing food, farming and its relationship to the land.  Small group activities allow each child to get their hands dirty during each activity.

Hands-on Activities

  • Compost/Soil Investigation and Seed Planting
  • Plant Parts Investigation
  • Food Web: The interconnectedness of forest and farm food chains
  • Seed to Harvest:  Students plant, tend and harvest vegetables from their own field, the Grow Lunch Garden

Trip Details

For Students:

  • Grades 1 – 5
  • Minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 students on trip

Trip costs

  • $100 per group
  • Scholarship funds available

To schedule a field trip, please contact Jennifer James at (503) 341-8627 or jennifer@sauvieislandcenter.org.  Trips are generally held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during the spring and fall seasons.  Summer field trips are also available.
