board recruitment

Dear Friends:

The Sauvie Island Center is currently recruiting several people to serve on our Board of Directors.  Board members serve 2-year terms with the opportunity for repeated terms of service.

The Sauvie Island Center serves elementary school youth of Portland by providing hands-on educational field trips at our Sauvie Island location in Metro’s Howell Territorial Park and our adjacent farm partner, Sauvie Island Organics.  Through our education programs, the Center seeks to increase the food, farm, and environmental literacy of the next generation.

In 2011, we served over 1,300 children with our program.  Over 60% of our field trips were provided free of charge to children from Title 1 schools in the Portland area.

The Sauvie Island Center welcomes applications for our Board from individuals with interest or experience in the following areas:  sustainable agriculture and food systems, youth education, community health and nutrition, environmental education, restaurant and other food related industries, fundraising and community outreach.

We are a small, but growing organization, and seek fun, committed, and energetic people to work with us to increase the number of children we are able to serve with our programs.

If you are interested in joining our Board, please complete the application (linked below) and return your response to our Executive Director, Anna Goldrich at (Enable Javascript to see the email address). Applications are due by April 15, 2012, and new board members will be added by summer.
