Sauvie Island Center Partners and Supporters

Metro

Metro Regional Government

Along with allowing Sauvie Island Center to use the barn on the property, Metro provides access to open space and farmlands and educational opportunities about the environment. Metro manages numerous acres on Sauvie Island, including both the Howell Territorial Park where Sauvie Island Center is located, and the adjacent property which is leased to Sauvie Island Organics. Through Metro's Nature University, volunteer naturalists are trained to help lead environmental education programs for the thousands of children who visit the parks each year on school field trips and for summer programs.

Metro protects open space and parks, plans for land use and transportation, and manages garbage disposal and recycling for 1.3 million residents in three counties and 24 cities in and around Portland. The agency also oversees world-class facilities such as the Oregon Zoo and the Oregon Convention Center.s

Sauvie Island Organics

Sauvie Island Organics

Sauvie Island Organics provides the Center with access to fields, farm expertise, mentoring for emerging farmers, community education and festivals. The farm markets its produce through a 200-member Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and to many of Portland's premier restaurants.

The mission of this local, organic farm is to grow a wide array of high quality seasonal produce for local markets, provide the community with a connection to their food source, educate people about sustainable food production, provide a model of sustainable farming, and create a high quality workplace for its employees.

Wildwood Restaurant

Wildwood Restaurant & Bar

Wildwood provides Sauvie Island Center with knowledge and experience in food production, preparation and education. It also serves as a model for successful relationships between local farm and restaurant communities.

Opening in May 1994, Wildwood is a full-service restaurant which specializes in foods of the Pacific Northwest. Wildwood prides itself on the philosophy that "...the process of cooking begins in the farmer's field; therefore, we must take a step back in the process and keep one eye on the land."

Organic Valley Farms

Organic Valley Farms

Organic Valley is America's largest cooperative of organic farmers and one of the country's leading national organic brands.

Comprised of 1183 farmer-owners that specialize in sustainable, organic agriculture practices, Organic Valley carries over 130 premium quality organic products, including dairy, eggs, juice, meat, soy, and produce. The mission of Organic Valley, Inc. is to distribute the most affordable, safest organic food in the nation while simultaneously promoting sustainable agriculture throughout the world.

Square Deal

Square Deal

Square Deal was founded to introduce Portland, Oregon to wines produced by families who we call ":Les vrais": -- winemakers and viticulturalists who make every effort to make wines that are genuinely representative of their land, their grapes and the vintage at hand.

St. Johns' Woods Garden Project

The St. Johns' Woods Garden Project is rooted in the public housing community of St. Johns' Woods and provides fresh food to over 100 low-income residents. Children ages 6-13 grew, eat and learn the benefits of healthy food in the newly established vegetable gardens at the St. Johns' Woods Apartments. Food Works is their group of 14-21 year olds who will grow salad greens at Sauvie Island Center to sell at the Portland Farmers' Market.
