Here at the Sauvie Island Center, we love bees! And butterflies, hummingbirds, bats, beetles, ants, flies and even mosquitos (OK fine, we’re still working on that last one — don’t tell the kids!). Why? Because they’re all pollinators!
Pollen hitches a ride on these keystones species as they feed on nectar, fertilizing the plant so flowers will mature into fruit. Do you like apples, berries, peaches, squash, cucumbers, pumpkin, pears, watermelon, eggplant, or peppers? (Just to name a few) Thank a pollinator.
And at our Family Farm Day on November 11th, you can show your gratitude by creating your own Seed Ball full of native, open-pollinated flower seeds to take home. Pollinator gardens increase quality food sources and habitat for these beloved creatures.
See you there!
